ARTALK: The most expensive painting ever sold...
It's titled No. 5,1948 by Jackson Pollock. The painting was done on a 8 x 4 feet sheet of fiberboard, with thick amounts of brown and yellow paint drizzled on top of it, forming a nest-like appearance. It was originally owned by Samuel Irving Newhouse and displayed at the Museum of Modern Art before being sold by several art collectors. The final sales price: $151.2 million!
Jackson Pollock created this masterpiece in 1948. It is now recorded in history as the most expensive painting ever. Sold by record executive and art collector David Geffen at Adjusted price of $151.2 Million (Original price $140 Million) on 11-02-2006.
